Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work from a photo, from life or a combination?

I live in Sydney so it depends where you live and what you prefer. I prefer to sketch from life if possible and photograph the subject. Two to three photographs (or a video) are enough for me to get a sense of your pet’s character and form, if you live too far away for me to meet them in person. (E.g. clients in West Australia.)

Can I request different subject matter?

Of course! I do illustrations for books, zines and organisations. Pets are a unifying subject matter the majority of people agree are lovely.

Can you illustrate my book/graphic novel?

Far more likely to say yes if it pays the bills! I’m pretty busy and I like writing as much as illustrating. For an example of my graphic novel work, see Once upon a time in Australia, which is required reading on University of Sydney foundations law curriculum.

Is illustrating or writing your full-time job?

Sometimes I wish, but no, I illustrate and write part-time. I am a lawyer and have worked as a paralegal. I like the teamwork aspect of law and fighting injustice: I don’t like the long hours that make it impossible to write or illustrate books.
